What is Halal?

In Arabic, Halal simply means permissible or allowed. Opposite to it is Haram, which means forbidden or not allowed. Muslims are forbidden from eating anything haram. They can only eat foods that are Halal and permissible according to Islamic law. [Quran: 5:88] And eat of the lawful and good (things) that Allah has given you, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, in Whom you believe.

Our Story:

VancouverFoodies.ca was established in response to the community’s desire for a dedicated portal for Halal consumers in Vancouver, British Columbia. Before its launch, there were no reliable resources available in Metro Vancouver, particularly for newcomers seeking Halal food options. Our website, launched in 2019, was created by local community members to fill this gap and provide trustworthy, up-to-date information.

We prioritize quality over quantity, meaning that we only list establishments we are confident in. This includes thorough vetting and verification of their Halal suppliers to ensure the highest standards. Our platform remains completely free, with no ads, no charges for listings, and no opportunities for businesses to pay for higher rankings, preserving the integrity of our listings.

Our Mission:

Note: WE ARE NOT A CERTIFICATION BODY.

Our mission is to promote and support Halal. Our goal is to have Halal options become readily available for the mainstream market. Being a proud member of Muslim Business Council BC, Halal Foodies Vancouver has become an industry leader with an active community of all Halal restaurants, markets, and community organizations who are onboard with us to promote and support Halal.
